Social media has opened doors for news and information to move much faster than it ever did before. Social media allows people to connect with others, voice their opinions, and in turn connect with people who share those opinions. This makes social media a great platform for launching activism campaigns or social movements. Connectivity, speed, spread of reach, and low cost of use are just a few of the many factors that contribute to social media as a platform for launching social movements. This essay explores the ways that social media is a powerful platform for the progress of social movements. It aims to present how social media in itself sparks these movements to arise, highlighting specific examples of successes and failures of social media use in social movements. The inclusivity of social media contributes to the rise of social movements through social media platforms.en_US
