Administrative History:

The Mustard Seed Fellowship was founded in the 1980s by Librarian and alumna Billie Blankenship Oakes and like-minded Milligan women as a way of raising money for student scholarships and encouraging students. It was patterned after an earlier effort of faculty wives known as Zelotai and Emmanuel School of Religion’s Fig Tree Fellowship. Milligan’s later organization, the Associated Ladies for Milligan, follows a similar pattern. The women met together for fellowship and service. One favorite activity was to host salad suppers as their meetings. A cookbook of their favorite recipes was once compiled as a fundraising tool. The group awarded many scholarships in their roughly ten-years of existence. The last Mustard seed Scholarship was awarded to Clinton J. Holloway in the early 1990s.

Arrangement:

The records are arranged into two series: I. Series: Records, 1980-1990 and II. Series: Artifacts, 1981-1987. The series are not arranged within themselves.

Preferred Citation:

[Item], The Mustard Seed Fellowship Records, Collection C132, The Holloway Archives at Milligan University, Milligan, TN.

Processing Information:

Re-processed by: Clinton J. Holloway

Completed in 2014 (re-processing).

When Dr. Oakes retired from Milligan the Mustard Seed Fellowship papers were placed in the archives. An initial processing preserved the entire collection. However, by 2013 it was deemed that not all of the records provided historical material to be maintained and so the collection was re-processed. Some items were incorporated into the vertical files of the Milligan College Archives. The box of tablecloths and napkins were sent to the Taylor-Phillips House for use in ALM and University events.
