Abstract:

This collection consists of the personal documents of Nelta Hyder including her birth certificate, college degree, and various other transcripts and certificates. The series, Annuals, includes ten yearbooks from 1948-1957. Some of these yearbooks belonged to Nelta, some of them belonged to Laken, and some seemingly did not belong to either. The yearbooks include signatures and notes from peers and professors who knew Nelta and Laken during their time at Milligan. The series, Artifacts, includes Laken’s baseball glove and baseball letters.

Biographical Note:

Nelta Hyder was born on December 11, 1929 and attended Milligan from 1948-1951. Nelta graduated from Milligan in 1951 with a bachelor of science before obtaining her Masters in Biology from East Tennessee State College. During her time at Milligan she was member of the Premed club.

Laken (Red) Warnok began attending Milligan in 1954 and graduated in 1957. Red played baseball at Milligan and was the junior class president in 1959. During his time at Milligan he got engaged to Nelta Hyder.

Scope and Content Note:

The Collection of Laken Warnok and Nelta Hyder is arranged in three series: Personal Documents, Annuals, and Artifacts. The series are then organized into subseries by owner and then chronologically in folders.

The Personal Documents series span 1929-1978 and contain the personal documents of Nelta Hyder including her birth certificate, college degree, and various other transcripts and certificates. The Annuals series includes ten yearbooks spanning 1948-1957. Some of these yearbooks belonged to Nelta, some of them belonged to Laken, and some seemingly did not belong to either. The yearbooks include signatures and notes from peers and professors who knew Nelta and Laken during their time at Milligan.
