Abstract:

Don Jeanes was inaugurated as the college president on October 24, 1997. A few of the key figures involved in the planning process were Lee Fierbaugh, Michael Johnson (chair for the banquet committee), Gary Weedman (Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean), Todd Norris, Vicki Warkoczeski, and Teresa Garland. This collection includes records, receipts, and notes used in planning the presidential inauguration of Don Jeanes. It also includes official invitations and programs, press kits, and thank you notes written after the inauguration.

Biographical Note:

Don Jeanes was the fourteenth president of Milligan College (now Milligan University). He was born on February 10, 1946 and first came to Milligan as a student in 1964. After he graduated in 1968, he remained at Milligan working as the Director of Financial Aid, Assistant to the Business Manager, and Resident Director (until 1973), while he worked on his masters of Divinity at Emmanuel School of Religion. He graduated with his M.Div. in 1972. Jeanes was married to Clarinda Phillips on December 30, 1969.

Don Jeanes held several positions over the years both in ministry and education. He served as administrative Vice President of Atlanta Christian College which later evolved into what is now Point University. There he was a Bible and Humanities professor and the Director of Financial Aid. Jeanes completed his Doctoral course work in American Studies at Emory University in 1980. He began his ministry in 1984 at First Christian Church in Johnson City as associate minister and business manager. He then took a position as a senior minister at Spring Branch Christian Church in Houston, Texas. He became the senior minister of First Christian Church in Johnson City in 1990 and remained there until he became Milligan’s president in 1997. He served Milligan College until 2011 when he retired. Jeanes passed away on August 27, 2012.

Scope and Content Note:

The Don Jeanes Inauguration Records, 1997-1998 are arranged in five folders: the first folder contains inauguration announcements, invitations and programs. The second folder contains schedules for meetings, budget records, a copy from a book on how to stage an inauguration and other planning documents. The third folder contains guest lists and their contact information. The fourth folder contains correspondence both within the organizing committees and with potential guests. The fifth folder contains a scan of a presidential medal, thank you notes, two press kits, and the governor’s speech notes.
