Abstract:

The Charles R. Taber Papers contain many course materials and writings of Charles R. Taber, a professor at Emmanuel School of Religion (now Emmanuel Christian Seminary) for many years.

Biographical Note:

Charles R. Taber was born in 1928 in Paris, France. After growing up as a child of missionaries, Taber returned to the missions field after receiving a degree from Bryan College and attending Grace Seminary. He also received a Master of Arts degree and a Ph.D. from Hartford Seminary Foundation. Taber taught at Milligan College (now Milligan University) from 1973 to 1979 and then at Emmanuel School of Religion (now Emmanuel Christian Seminary at Milligan) from 1979 to 1997. He was a prolific writer and editor in the field of missions. Taber passed away in 2007.

Arrangement:

The collection was found in the Helsabeck Archives and was compiled of items from the reference files on Taber and two boxes. The papers of Charles R. Taber are divided into five series: I. Series: Emmanuel, 1973-2006, undated; II. Series: Writings, 1973-2007, undated; III. Series: Other Work, 1978-2001, undated; IV. Series: Personal, 1979-2005, undated; and V. Series: Photos, undated.

Scope and Content Note:

The papers of Charles R. Taber are organized into five series: Emmanuel, Writings, Other Work, Personal, and Photos.

The Emmanuel series spans 1973 to 2006 and contains undated material. This series mostly contains files on various courses Taber taught at Emmanuel School of Religion (now Emmanuel Christian Seminary at Milligan). Other items in the series include class rosters and grades from undergraduate classes Taber taught for Milligan and other items related to his work at Emmanuel.

The Writings series spans 1973 to 2007 and contains undated material. This series consists of both published copies and unpublished drafts of Taber’s writings. Additionally, the series contains copies of some periodicals that he edited.

The Other Work series spans 1978 to 2001 and contains undated material. This series contains files on various other work that Taber did outside of Emmanuel and items related to his interests.

The Personal series spans 1979 to 2005 and contains undated material. This series contains biographical information, correspondence, and a couple pieces of writing from other authors.

The Photos series is undated. It contains one folder of work photos of Taber, many of them taken from a display.

A copy of “Grace on the Fringe” by Gary R. Gilbert, M.Div. Thesis from Emmanuel School of Religion in 2007 was removed as it was only tangential to the collection.
