Abstract
As of 2015, there are 4.8 million ELLs in the public school system out of which eighty percent are Spanish speakers. Unfortunately, many of these students do not have access to the resources they need to be successful in their education which in turn affects the U.S. economy, penal system, healthcare, etc. To effectively and efficiently address the multifaceted issues associated with ELLs, the first step is to address teacher training, increase access to bilingual classes, and implement laws to protect rights to quality education for all students. This investigation, supported by current research and data, will present the issues of the prevailing systems and will examine potential solutions which will inevitably improve education for ELLs and in turn improve education for all students.
