Item How To: Make Plarn and Crochet Bed Mat(Jessica Statzer, 2018-05-02) Statzer, JessicaMake a sleeping mat for a homeless individual by collecting plastic grocery bags to cut and crochet.Item Plarn for a Cause(2018-04) Statzer, JessicaMAKING PLARN BED MATS FOR THE LOCAL HOMELESS I held classes at the Senior Center, teaching all the participants how to make “plarn”, AKA plastic yarn. We use the plarn to make bed mats for our local homeless individuals. This project gets plastic bags out of our environment, brings people together in a social circle, and gives homeless individuals a softer and dryer surface to lay. We got together in the craft room, where we shared stories and loop strips of plastic bags together to make plarn. The second half of the classes we crocheted the 3-by-6 feet bed mat that takes more than 700 used plastic bags. I and several women sat together to work on this project. This process has brought women from the area together, while getting to know each other, laughing, and learning a new skill to pass on. With the help of the women attending my classes at the Senior Center, I completed a plarn bed mat.Item Sew Yummy Sensory Foods(2017) Cain, BrittanyManual on how to create sensory food that can be used in interventions with children.Item Superhero T-Stool(2017-04-20) Moncier, DanielThe superhero t-stool is designed produce vestibular (movement) input while a pediatric client needs to be in a seated position. In addition to providing vestibular input, the stool also requires activation of core muscles to balance and remain upright while seated on the stool. For a child who seeks vestibular input, the stool can help to increase the child’s ability to focus, pay attention, and remain seated while in the classroom. The superhero t-stool also includes changeable covers that can help customize the stool for the pediatric client based on the superhero that he or she may prefer. Each superhero design that was created has a removable seat cover, a detachable cape, and weighted lap accessory that corresponds to the superhero. The weight accessories can be used for proprioceptive (deep pressure) input for pediatric clients who need the sensory input.Item The Weight of Success: OT in the Classroom(2018-04-18) Ritter, RebeccaCovers of educational fun for lap pads.
