Item Maurice R. Love oral history interview(2016-06-10) Love, Maurice R.Maurice R. Love was born in 1928 and grew up in Erwin, Tennessee. Before entering Milligan as a freshman in 1947, Maurice served in the U. S. Marine Corp at the Battle of Iwo Jima. At Milligan, Maurice played on the football team with Francis Gary Powers until Milligan disbanded its football program in 1950 and caused Maurice to lose his football scholarship. He then transferred to East Tennessee State University (ETSU) in Johnson City, TN, to finish his degree. This interview discusses his youth in Erwin, TN, his experience as a U. S.
