Abstract:

This collection is about reunions organized and held by alumni of the Milligan V-12 Program. The Navy V-12 Program was during World War II when Milligan was a Navy V-12 school from 1943-1945. Correspondence and items from reunions are included in this collection, as well as videos and photos of reunions.

Administrative History:

This collection represents the reunions held by graduates of the Navy V-12 program. The Navy V-12 Program was a program the US Government used to train officers during World War II. This program converted colleges and universities into schools that trained officers. Milligan University (College at the time) was the only school that fully turned the school over to the program; all of the others only had the V-12 program parallel to their normal schooling. Milligan operated as a V-12 school from 1943-1945, seeing 658 trainees come through the school.

Arrangement:

A previous archivist had begun some preliminary sorting of this collection before the most recent work on this by Aaron Jones, archives intern. Jones mostly kept the folders as he found them with a little consolidation. There are 5 series: I. Series: Correspondence, 1979-2010; II. Series: Reunion Material, 1985-2010; III. Series: Literature/Related Items, 1943-1945, 1980-2011, undated; IV. Series: Photos, 1943, 1990-2008; V. Series: Media, 1980-2004, undated.

Scope and Content Note:

The Navy V-12 Reunion Collection is separated into 5 series: Correspondence, Reunion Material, Literature/Related Items, Photos, and Media.

The Correspondence series spans 1979 to 2010. This series has reunion planning material, letters to reunion members from the planning committee, biographies and surveys used for reunions, along with various miscellaneous correspondence.

The Reunion Material series contains items from the actual reunions themselves. There are reunion agendas, schedules, speeches, handouts, as well as expense reports. This series spans 1985-2010.

The third series is Literature/Related Items, which spans 1943-2011. This is a lot of material that did not fall into the categories of the first two series. This includes research on the Milligan V-12 from newspapers, interviews with V-12 veterans, and essays from students.

The fourth and fifth series are both media resources, separated into photos and media. The photos series includes photos from Milligan during its time as a Navy base and photos from reunions. The media series has videos from reunions in multiple forms, as well as some of the music that would be played. Some of the media is undated.
